| PROCEDURE FOR HAIR-DNA SAMPLE COLLECTION |
|
1. Label small clear snap-lock plastic bags. Label the clear snap-lock bags and 'Sample From' (click link to print out Sample Form) with the date and a name of the person to be tested. For example: Father, Son, etc. 2. Pull four hairs from your head, eyebrow or underarm, etc. This can be performed with tweezers or your thumb and forefinger, grasping the hair slightly above where the hair joins the skin. The hair/s can be pulled out with one quick swift motion. NEVER touch the end of the hair where it was attached to the skin (the hair root). The hair root (small clump of skin cells) must be attached to the end of the hair after it is pulled from the body (ie. Ensure the hair did not 'break', but was pulled out completely). It is possible to see the hair root by looking closely at the end of the hair you have pulled out. You may be able to see a tiny round ball of cells at the end of the hair, remember to be careful not to touch this end of the hair. Sometimes the hair root is too small to be seen easily, therefore your hair samples will be scanned under a microscope to ensure we can obtain plenty of Hair-DNA. 3. Place the hairs immediately into a small snap-lock plastic bag. Place the hairs immediately into the bag labelled with the identity of the person from whom the hair was taken from. Now you can see the hair in the clear plastic bag, and you may be able to see the hair root at the end of the hair, without any risk of touching the root, or dropping the hair on the ground. 4. Mail the bags to DNA SOLUTIONS for processing. Payment must accompany the samples for testing. Please allow 2 to 3 weeks for completion of testing. Mail
